You really manage to capture such an intense feeling. I love the composition, how it feels more like a snapshot of a moment instead of an arranged picture. It feels like the camera was never present, it's just a moment, a feeling. I have a hard time figuring out if it's intimately erotic, or abusive. Very intense, amazing picture.
at first i would have said it looks erotic and i even liked it, but then i realized (also by reading the comments) that is a really a representation of sexual abuse or pedophilia, the cut wrists are other cool detail. Great shot, composition. Im loving it
I was a little girl on a mans lap like in what this looks like its disturbs me because if what happened to me!!!! but being in an objective point of view as any artist needs to do i feel the work is perfect ditto what I went through!! but the one thing more disturbing than anything else is it's called the hunger! meaning he wanted her ( how I see it ) if the title were geared more for the girl in need of help or a cry out for her but it's not
I'm trying to figure out why you think "woman" when it quite blatantly represents a child. "The Hunger", the lace child-like dress and child's body type, even the slit wrists, all portray repetitive sexual abuse.
And this man is her husband. You can see him in many other of her photos and they make together many tender or intimate portraits. <3 So in my opinion, this portrait doesn't represent at all any child abuse.
I suppose of course each one can interpret it as they want. But still I thought to clarify this.
I don't see anything erotic about it; it's downright disturbing. I'd say the color contrast, the models' positions and the title make that clear (and with remarkable sensibility), to the point I find it scary that you'd think it's "erotic".
Honey, those two feelings have to be in contrast for you to be considered a mentally healthy human being. You're aware that "erotic" means something inteded to sexually arouse people, right? So how the hell can you be aroused by disturbing things? That's sick, that's what.
Erotic is not simply sexually arouse, the root for the word Is the Eros or Desire, basically the instinct for survival, towards life. On the other hand disturbing is more of a moral judgement, which is established by society and culture, your making a moral judgment...both are correct I suppose but not in costarring ways as you claim, the Opposite or the desire to procreate is Death, While the opposite of is disturbing is what is proper. So what the other person is not sick only according to your local opinion which happens too...
I'm not talking about the origin of the word, I'm talking about its definition. Also, I'm not saying they're opposites like black and white, but erotic and disturbing aren't supposed to go together. Of course both those things are subjective, but what one person finds disturbing should be different from what that same person finds erotic, which is what bothers me here: the person I replied to said they found the photograph both erotic and disturbing.
Well is see no conflict there either, disturbing is like something disquieting, it takes you out of your comfort zone, but anyone can handle that. Because once you've experienced something once the disturbing factor diminishes, lets say all the pictures in deviant art where exactly the same, pretty soon it becomes a banal of a matter....Anyhow erotic means you want to procreate, how nature goes about that, its a biologist guess. Have you ever heard of fetishes, I don't know but people have those, I remember one of the guys who chooses the daily deviations was into that. That diminished my disquieting factor.....Anyhow from a natural standpoint. anything that happens is sort of up to it. In a moral standpoint, that's up to the interpretation of the individual. But how can one single individuals opinion rule over nature. So don't let it bother you to much I guess, The artist is from Europe somewhere, and that's her husband I think. And am ok with that XD
Hey don't take what this person says as correct, I put an explanation below about it. The two ideas are not related in the way this person believes, don't want you to go around chinking that is sick or the disturbing is the opposite of sexually arousing...and first of all you have to prove the image is disturbing. I thought as provocative as to what XD
Wow okay, different people have different opinions and different ideas on what the word erotic means. For me, the things I find erotic are never anything I find sexually arousing, I don't know why the word 'erotic' even comes into my mind as a descriptive word for certain things because of that reason, but it does. I find this particular image both incredibly disturbing and 'erotic' in that term. Not everyone thinks the same, that doesn't mean you should call someone 'sick' or 'mentally disturbed' just because they have a different idea to you on what something means (:
Fair enough that you personally don't find it arousing, but what I'm saying is that, in general, finding disturbing things arousing or believing they were intended to arouse (which is what erotic means) is sick, and I'm entitled to that opinion.
